Ready to Reach Your Peak?

My name is Val Burke and I'm an Exercise Physiologist and Endurance Training Specialist in triathlon, biking and running. I am co-author of the "Best Ever Stretching" posters and handouts, which are stretching resources for health professionals. I lived and trained athletes in Whistler, Canada, before returning to New Zealand in November 2007.

My Mission:

To help you reach your potential as an endurance athlete using the potential that has been
given to you.

“The Ultimate satisfaction is to be content with what you have been given.” Nick Willis, Bronze Medal 1500 m; 2008 Beijing Olympics. Taken from Otago Daily Times, October 18, 2008.

Will is one of the most coachable athletes I have worked with, and if anyone deserves to reach the top in the world of professional cycling (drug-free), it is him. He has a commitment to excellence without compromising his ethics & health. I would keep your eye on him over the next few years, because he hasn't reached his potential yet…

Gary+Brenda Baker

Gary Baker

Last year Gary (69 yrs old; PB marathon 2:31 ran in his mis-40s!!) came out at dawn to support our running group as his wife Brenda was a regular.

His lip was swollen to 4x its normal size (bee sting while out road riding) and he had a bruise the size of a soccer ball on his leg (falling off his mtn bike). I still can't help smiling to think that Gary & Brenda's attitude towards life typifies a Whistler culture I grew to love.

Brenda still runs <40 min 10 km and < 1:30 half marathon times (she looks about 35, but is really 55!). She also participates in triathlons after mastering her inability to swim a few years ago. We call it “The Whistler Age” meaning most of the active people there look about 10 yrs younger than they are, and you only get it from taking care of your body - eating good food, getting plenty of activity & fresh air, and doing a lifetime of things you love!”

When I moved to Wanaka I received the support from the New Zealand Academy of Sport - named to be one of their “Preferred Strength & Conditioning Providers”.

Since May I have been working with some of New Zealand's top (and 2010 hopefuls) snowboarders, as well as the FreeSkiers. It has been a different culture for me to work in, and I have really enjoyed it!

“You never grow unless you reach outside of your comfort zone” - it was time for me to move outside my comfort zone of endurance.

Inquire if you are interested in any of the Wanaka Group Programs I am offering, including: STRENGTH TRAINING FOR TRIATHLETES & RUNNERS, and a CHALLENGE TRAINING GROUP FOR ENDURANCE ATHLETES – Contact me for more!

Just Crazy Enough For MultiSport

Endurance sports coach and former Dunedin resident Val Burke has returned to New Zealand after spending seven fruitful years in Canada whipping Whistler's triathlon scene into shape. Now she hopes to do the same in Wanaka.

Loonie Races, Knee Knackers and Comfortably Numb: Those are the names of just some of the events Canadian endurance coach Val Burke has put her charges through over the years. They are not meant to imply multisport athletes are nuts - "although of course they are".

Now living and working in Wanaka, Burke (40) says those event names relate to the.... Read more>>
